Humpback whales of Samaná Bay, Dominican Republic

I did two trips to the Dominican Republic this year in January & March.  Wonderful country and people.

Fortunately, I was there when the largest migration of Atlantic humpback whales ends at Samaná Bay in the Dominican Republic where they give birth to their calves.  Literally hundreds of humpback whales are in this bay for about 6 weeks each winter.  Unbelievable experience!

If you go, I HIGHLY recommend going with the most experienced whale watch company:  Whale Samaná.  Owned and led by marine mammal specialist Kim Beddall.  Truly a top-notch experience.

You’ll also see a photo from an excellent street vendor making custom, personalized arm bands — bought two for my nephews.

And I love the art and shadow from the art near the Plaza España in Santo Domingo.  The artist is:  “El Artistico” in Romana, D R.

My favorite photo I took on this trip is shown here.

Have you seen these whales?
