Over the Labor Day weekend I had the pleasure to photograph the Eaglesons on Parson’s Beach in Kennebunk, Maine. We had great weather and I’m really happy with the results. Shown here are David, Alice, sons Will and Andrew and their chocolate lab Leroy.

Some friends have been encouraging me to post some older portraits that are not yet on my website. A couple of years ago I was invited by Golf Pro Ken Raynor to photograph the George H.W. Bush Cape Arundel Celebrity Golf Classic at Cape Arundel Golf Course in Kennebunkport, Maine. The Classic benefits Gary’s House of Mercy Hospital. The celebrities golfing at the tournament were former NHL defenseman Eric Weinrich and 5 time Olympic Gold Medalist Bonnie Blair. I talked with both Bonnie and Eric and they both agreed to let me do a portrait of them to use for a future photography exhibit. Eric is now Assistant Coach of the Portland Pirates AHL team and shown here is Ken Raynor giving a tour to Bonnie Blair.

I was back in Maine for a quick visit over Memorial Day weekend after attending my 20th college reunion in New Haven. I absolutely love going to the parade in Kennebunkport’s Dock Square complete with the fire trucks, marching band, Boy Scouts and President George H.W. Bush making a speech. I got four good shots of him and Barbara and these were with my “travel” camera.
To remember my Mom on Mother’s Day I thought I would post my last formal portrait that I did of her. This was a tough shot to take because she was nervous about having me do it. So I had her sit in a lawn chair in her back yard. To get her to smile, I asked her to tell me about her last trip…that got her going and and she began talking with her hands which she so often did. I shot this with my old Nikon film camera–one of the last photos I did in film before switching over entirely to digital.
Happy Mother’s Day Mom!

I arrive at the agency and sure enough, Seth’s “studio” is in a big, open area nestled between offices and cubes–so that everyone at the firm walks by him as he paints. Different, huh?
Also different was how Seth and I were connected. It turns out he is good friends with my cousins in Hull, MA and had heard about me through my uncle Walter.
Seth’s work is colorful, unique and quite impressive and I photographed him as he was working on a piece for his upcoming show at the Liberty Hotel on Tuesday, May 18th at 6pm. Check it out.
Bath, ME—Last week I had the pleasure of photographing artist John Gable at his studio in Bath. I’ve wanted to meet Jack for literally 27 years. Yeah, I know. I’m a little slow but I do eventually meet my goals. Jack used to live in Kennebunkport when I was growing up here as a kid. And my first introduction to him was not his beautiful artwork….but his Shelby Cobra sports car. I used to see him drive it around town (I was 14 at the time) and boy did I love that car. It was only later on that I learned the owner was John Gable. I’ve always loved his work and have three of his prints in my home. My two favorite are Keith McClelland at Consolidated School and Emmy in front of Allison’s Restaurant.
John has a HUGE studio directly above Reny’s in Bath. He explained, “I need a studio this large because of the murals he’s commissioned to do for clients.” He showed me one that was 102′ long for a restaurant in Washington, DC.
I spent an hour and a half with Jack and we were both amazed to learn how many connections we had. We both knew many of the same people, had some similar life experiences and even wear the same watch–how weird?
Jack has agreed to participate in my upcoming exhibit, Mainiacs, and I’m honored to have him as one of my subjects. If you want to view some of his fantastic work click here.
