I had been meaning for some time to drop by Everglades photographer Clyde Butcher’s new gallery in Coconut Grove. Last week I did and met and photographed, for the second time, gallery director Natasha Lopez de Victoria. (I had actually already photographed Natasha who is an accomplished artist two years ago for IRREVERSIBLE art magazine).
Photographing artists is always a fun time. As subjects they’re not afraid to get really creative. Natasha was no exception. In fact, that is her own personal philosophy on life: To play.
She explained to me a while ago she was stressed and working so much her head couldn’t hold anymore….literally… because her hair started to fall out. Since then she tries to approach life with the intention of looking at it as play time.
“Your life depends on it. Why? We’re all kids in big bodies. If we don’t play we’re not going to smile. Whether you see it as play, or if you see it as work. It is more soul enriching. It raises the bar for everyone around you.” What a wonderful way to look at life!
Natasha is the 32nd subject in #YouWowMe – the first-ever photography project to combine portraiture and personal words of inspiration which are passed to the next person — i.e. a “pay it forward” of inspirational photography.
