Pablo Cano at Young at Art Children’s Museum – Davie, FL

//

Last Saturday Miami marionette artist Pablo Cano asked me to photograph his marionette performance at the grand opening of the brand new Young at Art Children’s Museum in Davie (Broward County), FL.  As part of the Museum’s opening reception (the museum was literally swamped with people on Saturday with lines just to get in the parking lot), Pablo performed a marionette show with his assistant John Durbin while poet David Plumb read an accompanying poem.

As you can see in the photos, the audience of mostly children was allowed to participate and was mesmerized by Pablo’s marionettes made from found-objects.

The grand opening of the Museum marked a new milestone for Cano’s career because the Museum incorporated a permanent room for his work called “Pablo’s Magical Workshop and Theater” complete with original marionettes and a large work space for children to create their own marionettes.

Cano, named “Best Artist of 2011” was just featured on the cover story of the Miami New Times and I photographed the cover.
