Photography from the Lotus House Fundraising Event “Heart Happening” at Margulies Art Warehouse in Miami

Friday night I had the fortune of photographing the Lotus House annual fundraising event “Heart Happening” at the Margulies Art Warehouse in Miami.  Lotus House is a resource center and residential facility serving homeless women and infants in the historic African American district of Overtown, Miami.  According to Lotus House, this year’s fundraising event Heart Happening was “an art happening” like no other, including lively performance art, a live auction by Sotheby’s and silent auction, and chef’s tastings from Miami’s finest, filling the entire 45,000 ft warehouse and spilling out onto the street – both literally and figuratively.”

What a treat it was.  Through the cavernous Art Warehouse which was curated by Katherine Hinds, every where you turned, there was a unique, visual experience that wowed the senses.  Every few minutes, a new “art happening” occurred and was announced by Board of Directors President, Constance Collins Margulies.  I could have photographed for hours – is was a sensory overload. A big thanks to Myra Wexler of “Musing with Myra” for making the night happen and to Noor Blazekovic of IRREVERSIBLE Magazine.  Here are just a few people who attended this amazing event: Claude Postel & Julie Mansfield; Inez Suen & David Josef Tamargo (art director for the World Erotic Art Museum); Myra Wexler of “Musing with Myra”, ; from UM Med School Dr. Erin Marcus and Suzanne Page; attorney Amy Rosenberg, Faquiry Diaz, Amelia Balonek; performance artists “The Minsky Sisters”; George Cozonis, general manager of W Hotel; Kathryn Moore of the South Florida Bike Coalition; Jennifer Shyka; BOOKSIIII with Primary Flight; a few of the artists I met who displayed their work at the exhibit: Randy Burman, Mark Diamond, Gema Alava, Alex Trimino, Peter Hammar and I met Caroline Underwood, Account Executive for Kreps DeMaria who handled public relations for the event.
