Why is the time of day so crucial to street photography?

For my next street photography exhibit, I’m focusing on downtown Miami – the old, original section of central Miami.  I had been doing most of the photography around lunch hour because that is when the streets are the busiest.  But the problem is the lighting around mid-day is not ideal.  It’s directly overhead.  I decided to do some work early in the morning as people are commuting to work and the results are dramatically different.  Look at the shadows created by early morning light and the level of contrast is also increased.  I think it’s a huge improvement plus it’s a heck of a lot cooler in the morning during August in Miami čÖé
